PROPERLY CARING FOR YOUR DENTAL BRIDGE

Whether you’ve experienced tooth loss from an injury or from poor dental hygiene, many patients find themselves with All-on-4® or All-on-6® dental implants. While this type of implant is the most durable, long-lasting option available—proper care and hygiene are essential when it comes to ensuring the longevity of your bridge.

WHY IT’S IMPORTANT TO CLEAN YOUR DENTAL BRIDGE

Unlike dentures, dental bridges are a permanent solution to replace missing teeth. With that being said, you don’t have the option to remove them to clean them properly each day as you would a denture.

Although dental bridges are positioned close to the gums, there is still a gap between the artificial tooth and the ridge of the missing tooth. If this area is not thoroughly cleaned, bacteria and plaque can build up—leading to gum disease and deterioration.

HOW TO CLEAN DENTAL BRIDGES – ALL-ON-4 & ALL-ON-6

USING A WATER FLOSSER

Because dental bridges are joined across the top, you cannot use traditional floss to clean between each tooth as you would your natural teeth. Utilizing floss alternatives can help you to keep your gums free of debris. One of the best ways to do this is by using a water flosser. Here are some benefits of using this clinically-proven floss alternative:

  • It is gentle on your gums: Using a water flosser effectively reduces plaque buildup, bleeding of the gums, and the risk of developing gingivitis.
  • It reduces the risk of periodontal infection: The pulsating effect from the water flosser rids the space between the gums and the implant of subgingival bacteria.
  • Helps those living with diabetes: People with diabetes are at a higher risk for severe gum disease and gingival inflammation. Using a water flosser reduces bleeding by 44% reduces the risk of developing gingivitis by 41%.

BRUSHING

As you would with your natural teeth,  you can clean your dental bridges by brushing them, you should brush them 2 to 3 times each day. This helps to remove the plaque from the implants and your gum line. Using a soft-bristled toothbrush, brush your implants in a circular motion for 2 minutes.
