Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Best Way to Find a Dentist Who Does Dental Implants?
Dental implants are viewed by many dentists and patients as the best modern option for replacing missing teeth. That said, it’s important to do your research and make sure you’ve chosen the right expert for the job. Reviewing a dentist’s credentials can give you a feel for how much knowledge and experience they have when it comes to dental implants specifically.
There are three kinds of dentists who can be said to specialize in dental implants: periodontists, oral surgeons, and prosthodontists. Our team happens to include two surgical prosthodontists (Dr. Mounir Iskandar and Dr. Ola Al Hatem) as well as an oral and maxillofacial surgeon (Dr. Juan Gonzalez). On top of that, Dr. Iskandar is an implantologist who is actively involved in the development of a variety of technologies that can enhance the dental implant process, such as cutting-edge implant planning software.
How Much Does It Cost to Get Dental Implants?
The answer to this question will vary from patient to patient simply because there are many different variables that need to be taken into account. The exact number of implant posts placed, the type of prosthesis they support, the possible need for preliminary treatments, and the materials used are all factors that can ultimately influence the final price.
Bear in mind that many dental insurance plans will not pay for the actual dental implant posts. However, they might provide coverage for certain parts of the implant process, such as any tooth extractions that might be required. You should reach out to your dental insurance company in order to clarify how dental implants are handled. Alternatively, you may consider applying for third-party financing in order to break up the cost of your care into monthly payments that are easier on your budget.
Do I Need a Bone Graft Before Getting Dental Implants?
Bone grafting is a procedure that involves transplanting bone tissue to the jaw, which can help ensure that there’s enough bone density for dental implants. (Said bone tissue can be taken from your own body or from a donor.) This is often necessary since bone loss is often a consequence of missing teeth. That said, our team will need to take a closer look at your jaw in order to determine whether bone grafting is truly required in your case.
Can I Get Dental Implants If I Smoke?
Smoking can increase the chances of dental implant failure; this is because tobacco interferes with the body’s healing processes and can make it harder for the implant posts to join with the jawbone. That said, you may still be eligible for dental implants even if you currently smoke. However, you will be told to refrain from using cigarettes for a certain amount of time before and after the procedure. If you’re having trouble doing so, talk to your regular doctor to see what they recommend.
