What Does Dental Implant Surgery Feel Like?
In order for your new prosthetic teeth to thrive, they need to have a sturdy base of support. That is why your dental team will strategically place 4 – 6 dental implants into each of your jawbones, which will eventually serve as the base for your XircOn™ dentures.
The surgical process is much easier than most people expect! You will likely be sedated, so you may feel little to nothing during your appointment. You might even feel as if you slept through the whole thing.
Recovering from Surgery
Some soreness is normal after dental implant surgery. Discomfort usually peaks within the first few days and then steadily declines after that. For most patients, any lingering swelling and soreness are gone within just a few weeks.
In the meantime, you will need to modify your routine so you do not worsen any irritation or pain you may feel. Pain relievers, a soft diet, and adequate rest can all help. Your dental team will provide instructions on the specifics of what you should do to facilitate a smooth recovery.
Keep in mind that extreme pain is not normal. If you experience it or have any other unusual symptoms, such as a bad taste in your mouth, pus, or other signs of infection, you should call your care team right away.
Getting Your New Teeth
You should receive temporary dentures on the same day as your implant surgery. Later, your temporary teeth will be replaced by permanent ones. This process is pretty easy and comfortable. Plus, since XircOn prosthetics are designed to be both flexible and strong, many patients find that they are more comfortable than traditional porcelain dentures. You should be able to use your new teeth right away, though you may want to stick with soft foods until you get used to how they feel in your mouth.
